Jazzy Mondays in Bed-Stuy!

For those in the know, For My Sweet is a little local garden that hosts events and the growing “Jazzy Mondays” music series. Bed-Stuy’s hottest local jazz artists are packing this place every week for the past couple of months now – and you are invited!

This Monday, August 15th, join former Gil Scott-Heron Band tenor saxophonist Bilal Sunni Ali. A native of Harlem, Mr. Ali has also lived in Belize, Atlanta, and New Orleans.  The last 12 years he has spent as an educator, composer, community activist, and world renowned musician. Besides Gil-Scott-heron Band, he has also performed with Stevie Wonder, Brian Jackson, Wynton Marsalis, Pharoah Sanders, and other music luminaries. Mr. Ali will be accompanied by Marc Cary on the piano, Taurus Martin on bass, and Sidiki Lancaster on djembe and percussion.

Atlanta-based musician and foodie Ras Chemash Lamed, a.k.a. “The Singing Chef,” will also be performing on the playbill and promises to bring his southern, sultry voice to our Brooklyn ears!

To top it off, renowned poet George Edward Tait will be reading selections from his book “Sword Songs” during the intermission.

Next Monday, August 22nd, get ready to jazz your socks off as Eric Frazier’s Jazz Jam (you HAVE to listen to some of his music) Session & Open Mic will perform at For My Sweet, too!
