The Good Food Revolution: Will Allen to Speak with Bed-Stuy

Bed-Stuy is undergoing a Food Revolution – and you can be a part of it! Next weekend, Brooklyn Rescue Mission is throwing a food, equity, and agriculture event on July 21, 22, and 23. Good Food Revolution leader Will Allen of Milwaukee’s Growing Power will be speaking and educating Bed-Stuy urban farmers, foodies, and everyone in between about how to set up an equitable and just local food system.

If you are unfamiliar with Will Allen and his organization Growing Power, here is a little background video:

Will Allen and his team at Growing Power’s biggest success is the development of a replicable Community Food Center: “It’s a place where people can come for training on how to grow food, on how to grow soil, on how to grow energy; that’s what we do here at Growing Power.”

This Community Food Center is now coming to Bed-Stuy and will not only incorporate training on cultivating foodstuffs, but on designing food distribution networks in urban settings. Through a novel synthesis of a variety of low-cost farming technologies including the use of raised beds, aquaculture, vermicutlure, and heating greenhouses through composting, Allen is able to produce vast amounts of food year-round on two-acres of urban land.
