Thirsty Bed-Stuy: Breukelen Cellars Opens Its Doors!

Local Brand Brooklyn Genology sold at the Cellars!

Chile, Spain, New Zealand, Italy with a dash of Washington, Oregon, and Brooklyn… no you’re not at Epcot, you just stepped into Breukelen Cellars, the newest addition to the Bed-Stuy Gateway. Located at 504 Nostrand Avenue by Halsey Street, Breukelen Cellars will be uncorking its doors on Thursday, March 3 with a grand opening and wine tasting menu at 6pm. Owner and Bed-Stuy native John Samuel was nice enough to let us in and give us a VIP tour of the shop. “It’s more than just a wine store” said John, “it’s a wine and art boutique.” Pointing out vibrant oil paintings by local artist Joseph Bolton, John continues: “every month we have rotating exhibits from local and international artists, too!” Seeing a gap in the area for a wine store and an exhibit space, John plans on opening up to weekly wine tasting events and showing off the art: Thursday-Saturday starting at 6pm and on Sundays, from 2-4pm.

With a price range of $10-$50 per bottle, Breukelen Cellars offers a little something for everyone in the hood. John suggested some of his favorites  like the Chilean Terra Andina and the New Zealand Saveé Sea for their quality and affordability, as well as the Tablelands Sauvignon Blanc and the Crianza Dama de Toro. He also suggested the crowd pleaser Loca Lind Malbec (I mean, who can pass up a liter for around $20?). With Sake and Plum Wines coming soon, John is going to have all of his bases covered.

So I will see you at Breukelen Cellars soon – being so close, I will (un?)fortunately be spending most of my paycheck here… they have a 70% tempranillo with my name on it.
