Bust out your bow-ties and tortoise shell glasses because Vodou Bar is once again throwing an incredible community event this Wednesday, August 10th for the Bakhita Girls Project. From 7:00PM – 11:00PM, enjoy an unforgettable evening of live music, art exhibits, and tasty libations, all while supporting a good cause for international women’s education.
The Bakhita Girls Project is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote women’s empowerment through community-based educational programs. For the past year, their programs have been operating in Ifakara, Tanzania and include everything from strengthening local curricula and teacher-training, to monitoring programs and team-building activities. The event at Vodou Bar will be a benefit event for the Bakhita Scholarship program, which helps young women afford the high costs of attending school in Tanzania.
Besides the amazing food and drinks that Vodou always offers, there will also be four performances by local musicians:
7:30PM - Jay Gandhi & Nitan Mitta (Classical Indian Music)
8:00PM - Thomaz De Castro (World Percussion)
8:30PM – Eleanor Dubinsky, Vita Tanga, Ben Zwerin, and Bendji Allonce (Folk, Soul, & Latin Fusion)
10:00PM – CB3: The Chelsea Barartz Trio and Claude Reed (Modern Jazz mixed with Soul & Hip-Hop)
To top it off, the gallery on the second-floor will be showcasing a series of donated paintings and photographs by artists Lars Kaeker, Susan Sorrell Hill, Elizabeth Rose Stanton, and Patricia Schneidewind.
